Yes, I'm lucky to have been put on piano lessons as a child.
Only after two decades, however, did I start to play small classical pieces of my own full choice by heart,
when having the objective of conveying personal emotions to concrete people via music (rather than via words).
A few months into this, something new happened which honestly surprised me:
I gradually started to develop a small piece in basic sonata-like form, myself.
It was exciting to now turn to composers of pieces I was practicing as de facto teachers.
It was also quite freeing,
as a musical amateur:
A world that had seemed hermetically closed, at a late stage, suddenly, turned out to be accessible.
